5 Reasons to Hit the Slopes at Ski Santa Fe

Santa Fe averages 325 days of sunshine per year, making it the perfect place for a midwinter retreat. The city is home to art, culture, food, and entertainment that you can experience in the city year-round, but the cold weather brings endless opportunities for exciting winter recreation. If you’re looking for some excitement this season, here are 5 reasons to hit the slopes at Ski Santa Fe!

#1 – The Slopes

The slopes at Ski Santa Fe open on Thanksgiving Day each year, and the season typically lasts through Easter Sunday. Boasting a peak elevation of over 12,000 feet, 225 inches of snow annually, and 86 runs for every skill level, Ski Santa Fe is one of the top destinations for downhill skiing and snowboarding in New Mexico. The base is only 16 miles from downtown Santa Fe, so visitors can take the Blue Bus from town, or enjoy a picturesque drive through the stunning Santa Fe scenery.

#2 – The Instructors

Experienced skiers will have a blast blazing down the slopes and exploring the glades. For novice skiers, the mountain also has plenty of smooth corduroy groomers for an easy downhill coast. If you need a little assistance getting started or are looking to perfect your technique, the expert instructors at Ski Santa Fe are available to guide you on your next skiing or snowboarding adventure. They offer half-day packages, family packages, and private lessons for every age.

#3 – The Equipment

If your skis or board need a little TLC, the tuning shop at Ski Santa Fe offers state-of-the-art tools to get your equipment back up to snuff. No equipment? No problem. Ski Santa Fe also offers rentals for skis, snowboards, boots, and helmets. For warm winter wear, the sports shop sells a plethora of stylish and weather-appropriate apparel. You can also pick up a few pieces of Ski Santa Fe merchandise as a souvenir from your trip.

#4 – The Food

A day on the slopes is a serious workout, so you’ll definitely need to refuel afterward. Ski Santa Fe has three on-site restaurants serving up excellent cuisine. Tuck in for a cup of soup, a panini, or a satisfying slice of pizza at La Casa Cafe. Enjoy burgers, beer, and other pub favorites at Totemoff’s Bar and Grill. The Terrace Grill at the base of the mountain serves classic American dishes, local flavors, and a variety of beer and wine for your enjoyment. If you’re looking for a caffeine fix, then head to BAz Coffee Bar. It’s a great spot to warm up with a steaming cup of coffee or gourmet tea.

#5 – The Bear

After an exciting day on the slopes at Ski Santa Fe, Inn of the Turquoise Bear is the perfect place to warm up and wind down. Although it may be cold and snowy on the mountain peaks, Downtown Santa Fe is relatively mild. Plus, Inn of the Turquoise Bear is conveniently close to all the top attractions in Santa Fe. Our historic adobe estate offers authentic wood-burning Kiva fireplaces, luxurious amenities, and a delicious gourmet breakfast every morning. If you’re ready to start planning your next winter adventure, book your stay with the Inn of the Turquoise Bear today!
